Through the Lanes of Muddy Roads – Dr.Sudha K.K

Passing by my school, through partially laid roads
Caressing those endearing memories in loads…
Muddy messy and slippery at rains
Holding an umbrella always in vain

Dresses drenched never bothered
Book bag soaked, still ventured
A cold or fever was never noticed
A playful evening was never compromised

Neighbourhood nannies berate around…
Rightfully taking us into their fold
Naïve mind, never mindful of a word
Immersing joyfully into a heavenly world

Marks scored was never a norm…
A grade or two less made no storm…
Parents’ rebukes hurt no hearts…
Teachers’ scoldings made no scars…

A pinch or a punch from our pals
Didn’t ever matter to be appalled.
Mom never bothered to check who did,
Nor did dad to blow up the bid…
Heart with brimming joy that crooned…
Was the belonging of that great childhood…
A piece of eraser or a crumb of a candy
Made our day gotten from a buddy…

Roadside pools and puddles were spots…
To play around soiling skirts and shorts…
The heavenly comforts of no resort…
Came ever close to the joy of that sort…

Nany’s routine bed time tales…
Blossomed as blooms of farther dales…
Rendered fragrance to sleep and dreams…
Expanding horizons of imaginations’ streams…

No bragging of dinner at restaurants…
No comparison of the haves with have-nots
Sharing a morsel with bench mate at school…
Thought of which makes my thoughts still drool…
