Jealousy in Literature – Sister Usha George

Jealousy is a fire that burns inside,
A feeling that consumes, that devours the soul.
It arises from the fear of losing, of not being loved,
Of being replaced, of being forgotten.

It is a poison that creeps in, that spreads,
That corrodes trust, that kills love.
Jealousy is a monster that feeds on doubts,
That feeds on fears and suspicions.

But jealousy can also be a sign,
Of a deep love, of a true desire.
It can be a warning bell,
That warns us of deeper problems.

Jealousy is a complex theme,
That requires reflection and awareness.
It requires looking inside oneself,
To face one’s fears and doubts

  • That’s a beautifully evocative and insightful poem about jealousy!
It captures the dual nature of the emotion so well: the destructive “fire that burns inside,” the “poison that creeps in,” and yet also the potential “sign, / Of a deep love, of a true desire.”
The imagery you use, like “devours the soul” and “monster that feeds on doubts,” powerfully conveys the pain and destructiveness of the feeling. Simultaneously, the final stanza offers a thoughtful path forward: that it “requires looking inside oneself, / To face one’s fears and doubts.”
This piece shows a deep understanding of the complexity of human emotion.
