DOVE And The DEVILS – Karoor Soman (Novel – 11)

Thank You Horizon

Sister Carmel read that news with great vexation. Her eyes became dim. Sex maniacs are flying from horizon to horizon with sharp nails. Most of them are strong, efficient, rich and powerful. Every piece of news froze her mind and body. Many of these criminals fall down like huge trees caught in a hurricane. It so happens because they are violating the laws of nature. A former German M.P. who was a Malayali has been punished by law for keeping pictures of child molestation in custody. Why did this person, who had held an eminent position for fifteen years do such a shameful deed? This forty five year old leader had proved his mettle in German politics. Then, what happened to him?

When the sister was in Germany, all Indians were proud of him. The position of an M.P. in a developed country is entirely different from that of an elected councillor. He could do and achieve many important things for the nation. In Indian politics we can see many M.Ps, MLAs and even Ministers, who are criminals. This German M.P also became one like them. If he had such evil desires at the bottom of his heart, why did he go to Germany? India would have been a much better place for persons like him. There the government would have opened all doors for his escape through the court whether he was a murderer, thief, molester or a corrupt person.

More than seventy years have passed since Indian independence. But poverty, starvation and corruption still exist there. The large majority of the people are poor. Those who come to power lead a luxurious life supporting dominating capitalists. Sister Carmel is Indian by birth. But on hearing about the aggressions and attack against women, she felt irritated and ill-tempered. Girls live in fear as if the country is engaged in war. The police expected to keep law and order are in the grip of the rich.

The poor people are helpless. The police throw laws to the wind. The government does not come forward to punish them. Because, those in power, are greater criminals than them. History tells us about many policemen who were criminals. The number of women entering into prostitution increases year by year in India, now. This has become a country which fosters not only poverty and starvation, but also prostitution. Most of them do not accept this job by preference. There are no prostitutes by birth. It is the circumstances that force them to be so.

A British minister has resigned his post. The reason was that the police had found out that he had sent his own nude photographs to many women in order to entice them. The media had brought them out. Their courage and sincerity should be praised. Why did the minster play the trick that the yellow papers do by exhibiting nude photographs of women to attract men? What an act of indiscretion on the part of a minister! We cannot blame someone who calls him a mental patient. Usually, the feminine body is sold for money in modelling and films. But here it is exhibited in Internet too. That makes one very much worried. If it happens to be his own sister or mother, what will the viewer feel? This is a part of the decadent culture that makes woman a commodity in all walks of life. There was a time when girls were sold on the basis of their age and beauty. Is the modern man retuning to that barbarian nature? Those who must discourage this tendency are encouraging it, now a days. Why is it so?

Sister Carmel’s eyes moved to the news about Maria Punnose in Chicago. The rich and high people in Italy, France etc. consider women as domestic animals.

If this is the condition in developed countries, are the girls and women who are poor safe in their own homes? The outside world does not even know about it. In developed countries this is not a very serious matter. The police, court and laws are hunting women even today. Women generally like to enjoy the sweetness of a dreamy life whether they live in a poor or rich country. When it becomes impossible their womanhood is bargained for.

Sister Carmel told Fatima happily.

“We are led forward by courage, faith and prayer. So there is no doubt that we will achieve our goal. But we have to be very careful that our words and actions are not foiled by anyone.”

Sister Carmel’s words of advice were like precious pearls to Fatima. “Allah will give me the chance to serve and love others. I will become a good social worker devoid of any desire for fame or money.’ She decided.

Sister Carmel telephoned Jacky. He came soon. Fatima left the room. Sister felt that all problems were at least partially solved. She turned to Jacky.

“Jacky, I called Kottaram Koshy. We talked for long. I plan to go to India after my gulf journey. During next week, I will be in Bahrain and Dubai. My journey is at the request of the U.N.O. The church is also with me. As far as you are concerned I believed that I have fulfilled the job entrusted to me. Won’t Kottaram Koshy be angry with me, if I failed to do that? After leaving this Care Home you should be careful about your job and studies. If you need money, tell me.”

Jacky replied with respect. “No Madam, I have no words to thank you for all your help. I will never forget this support till my death. I wish to work in a construction company. Because my plan is to enter the same field on finishing my studies. Thank you sister. Thank you very much.”

Sister looked into his eyes. At the time she was not in a position to give any guarantee to his desire. But she answered giving him hope. “Make a special prayer to fulfil your desire. Then it will be satisfied. There are temples in this city too. Place your dreams and wishes before God. The Almighty will grant everything. I too shall pray for you” She said with a smile.
