Village officer Devarajan went in like a shadow while expatriate Ajith Kumar was standing on the veranda of the village office to give tax. He was an office clerk a few years ago when he come to change the ownership of property to his children. The office is multi staff office but the busiest officer is tax collector, he buy cash and give receipts. A loud voice from inside can be heard outside. Stood inside. The chunky books on the table is a good scenery for eyes. These books contain the geology of all the properties in the panchayat. What will they do if all this is lost in a fire or flood? Can’t those who claim to be number one in literacy put all this into digital technology?. In one corner of the office, a disabled chair is covered in dust. Ajith remembered that day when his euphoria faded. The person who bribe 5,000 from him today become a village officer. There is a time for everything under the sky. There is a time to grow and time to fall. For a long time he grow rich without falling off. For those in power affluence is an adornment.
