OREVER NEWS WEEKLY Mumbai “Agent Orange deformities” – A Sin by US in the infamous Vietnam War!
-Sreenivas R Chirayath
The War effect is still there in Vietnam, even after it ended, about four and a half decades ago!
Due to the chemical toxicity, by the so-called Agent Orange, used by the United States in the Vietnam war – one of the longest in human history – has its effect even now, as children are being borne with strange abnormal features like long head and other handicaps – about one lakh children and a total of about one million people are still suffering from that!
The Vietnam war had begun on 1.11.1955 and ended on 30.04.1975 with the withdrawal of US forces, in 1973, as it found that there’s no point in remaining over there indefinitely, since the communists had swallowed South Vietnam too, whereas the US had lost soil under its feet and disengaged from the war, during Richard Nixon’s presidency.
The phenomenal Vietnam war,
the longest in history, till the Afghanistan war broke it’s record, was responsible for the death of a total 38 lakh and 12000 human beings – including the civilians of both the then Vietnams, Cambuchia, Laos and all the three military groups together, as per BMJ (British medical journal) and according to ‘Guenter Levy’s version it’s 13,53,000, while the Vietnamese government’s estimate, the toll was 3.4 million human lives, altogether!
There are different versions about the total number of people perished.
The United States was concerned about the protection of South Vietnam from the Communists who had taken over North Vietnam when the French had ultimately left it and their next aim was to invade South Vietnam.
Vietnam was a battle field for such a record long span of time for both the Super Powers, the US + Allies and the then USSR + China.
During those times, wherever communism was smelt in a fresh area, as if within no time, the US used to be at the scene to try to combat it.
The United States had lost the lives of its 57,937 soldiers in Vietnam war while 2.5 lakh of the then South Vietnamese forces, as per US military estimates.
Over ten lakh then North Vietnamese Vietcong guerrillas were also killed by the US and the then South Vietnamese forces.
Wars have been imposed on the innocent people and once the ‘international game’ got over, the concerned forces go back to their respective domains;
but the sufferings of the innocent people, like the one due to the “Agent Orange” etc, inflicted upon them, hardly leave them!
The international community must strive to see that no more wars occurs in this world;
for that, the United Nations must take over all the borders inbetween the countries and secure it as buffer zones.
It’s high time that the UNO converted itself into the apex umbrella government, over all the national governments of the world!
Jai Vishwamata.
