Some Covid thoughts pertaining to Kerala – Dr. Gangaprasad

Some Covid thoughts pertaining to Kerala.

We are fed up with this disheartening term, covid. I have to say, it is a badly politicalised word now. But as we are in this world, some information is needed, though we don’t like it.

In this world giving a plethora of information, we cannot believe anything blindly and have to read everything critically with an analytical mind (including me). Every sentence is potentially biased and we should form our own opinion. A few points from my common man perspective.

What I understood is we are only learning about the disease. Lock down is good to prevent the spread, but the way in which it is done seems illogical to me.

I live a little away from the town. To buy certain items I have to go to the town. I used to pile up my list and buy all those when I go to the town once in a week. Now because only certain shops are allowed to open on a day, I will have to go many days, almost every day of the week, to buy all. Since the public transport is much limited, I will have to resort to private transport. With fuel price hike almost every day, more money has to be spent though income is less or nil. There will be more traffic on the roads, more pollution, more crowding in shops and not allowing people to sit at home any day though they proclaim so. Is it not counterproductive?

Is it not more effective to allow all shops to open and to enforce entry of less people at a time and to observe social distance (micro containment). Vaccine also is a helping hand. But educating and motivating people to take vaccine and telling them we don’t have it, seems ridiculous.

Now banks can open on all days but transactions are allowed only on 3 days and the rest of the days are for accounting as if that was not done before, let alone other countries.

And I don’t believe the virus care for any political party. Restrictions are not uniform. If it is some function of a party or funeral of somebody they like, there will be relaxation, for the common man there are tight rules.

When there is no effective treatment and there are so many asymptomatic (carriers) in the society, what purpose is done by testing a few? It doesn’t help in treating or isolating. Can help only in scaring people showing the statistics.

Personal hygiene, social distancing, vaccine, good balanced diet etc: seems good, but miracle remedies and immune boosters are to be careful about. I think vaccinating the maximum in the shortest time is to be given priority.
