The Botswana currency,  Pula and thebe was first launched on Aguest 23  1976,
With a denomination, structure, comprising four bank notes (Pula 1, P2 P5 and P10 ) and five Thebe Coin (1theba,10t 25t and 50 t)over the years due to rising prices higher value bank notes and coin were introduced. The lowest value Coin namely one t, has been demonetised Nonetheless, such adjustments have not been friequent indicating the successful, adoption of appropriate monetary and exchange rate policies to help preserve the value of the Currency.
The design of the Currency had has been Consistently based on Symbolic illustrations of the Socio -economic, political and cultural make -up of Botswana as a Country. Including the importance of democracy tourism and mining the design has been periodically reviewed both to improve security to mitigate against currency counterfiets and to make appropriate adjustments to to the art work, benefitting form latest developments on technology for Currency printing since the
Launch of the Pula in 1976,it had been the practice for all new banknotes to feature the portrail of the current Head of State. However since 1997 each denomination features a different portrait. With only the P10 bank note bearing the portrait of the sitting president

On August 23 /2009exactly 33years since the indroduction of the pula,a new family, of bank notes was introduced. The included a new Pula Bank notes bearing the image of a Motswana lady teacher and pupils, reflecting both the importance of education and the contribution of Women of Women to national devolpment.
On February 28/2014a new family Botswana coin was issued into circulation
And the old coin demonitised with effect form Aguest 28/2014 subsequent to that
the old coin was exchanged for face value for a period for a period of five 5years until Aguest 28/2019.,
On February 22,/2021, a polymer P10bank note bearning the portrait of the current President, His Excellency Dr. Mokgweets E Masisi was introduced.
