Our National Flag

-Sreenivas R Chirayath

The National Flag is one of the most important Identities for any country.

As many of us know that our National Flag was designed by Shri Pingali Venkayya.

It was officially adopted on 22nd July, seven decades ago, on this very day, as i am writing this, today.

Our National Flag is called as the โ€œTricolourโ€ in English and โ€œTirangaโ€ in Hindi, as it is combined of three colours, namely Saffron above, White in the middle and Green, below the flag.

These colours of our sacred National Flag represent the features, i.e., courage, sacrifice, peace, truth, faith & chivalry, respectively.

The Ashoka Chakra which has an ancient history,
is placed in the middle of the Flag, i.e., on the white portion.

The Ashoka Chakra is in navy blue colour in which twenty-four spokes are there.

The Chakra represents Dharma hence also called โ€œDharma Chakraโ€.

Dharma Chakra belongs to the era of Emperor Ashoka, one of the greatest rulers of ancient Bharat.

Many an archaeological site has revealed this fact.

As in the beginning i mentioned that one of the major identities of every country, is itโ€™s National Flag.

Here below i quote, what the Father of Morden India, Mahatma Gandhi said:

โ€Œโ€A flag is a necessity for all the nations.
โ€Œ
โ€ŒMillions have died for it. It is, no doubt a kind of idolatry which would be a sin to destroy it, for flag represents an ideal.
โ€Œ
โ€ŒThe unfurling of the Union Jack evokes in the English breast, sentiments whose strength it is difficult to measure.
โ€Œ
โ€ŒThe Stars and strips mean a world to the Americans.
โ€Œ
โ€ŒThe Stars and Crescent will call for the best bravery in Islam.โ€
โ€Œ
โ€ŒIt will be necessary for us Indians (like) Jeus, Parsis and all others to whom India is their home to recognise a common flag to live and to die forโ€.
โ€Œ
โ€ŒAt the common border between India and Pakistan, ie. at Waga โ€“ Attari, we have erected our National Flag which is the largest and standing as the tallest with 360 ft height.
โ€Œ
โ€ŒEveryone must respect the National Flag, whether he/she is an Indian or a non resident; in short every one should respect every sovereign nations Flag because as said earlier, that the National Flag is one of the most important Identity for one and all as the citizens of all the nations.
โ€Œ
โ€ŒJai Hind, Jai Vishwa.
